Preschool Program
Early childhood is an important developmental stage in every child’s life. The preschool program at Queen of Heaven School is designed to accommodate the needs of children who have turned four years old before December 1st of the current year. Preschool classes will meet five days a week from 8:15 AM - 2:00 PM. Preschool students may also attend the Before School Program which begins at 7:00 AM and the After School Program which runs until 5:45 PM.
The overall goal of the program is to build a foundation for lifelong learning and achievement of the Common Core learning standards. A strong emphasis is placed on social and emotional development. Each child is encouraged to gain independence while adjusting to a regular school routine. The children interact with other grade levels and participate in school concerts and weekly Mass.
The curriculum includes basic readiness skills such as letter and number recognition, phonemic awareness, colors, shapes, and a focus on the Pre-K Common Core Standards. Our program features the "I Am Special" religion series for four year olds. The children also work on the preschool Weekly Reader, Clifford Magazine, and develop a writing and drawing journal throughout the year. Daily gym class, music, art, library, technology, STEM and Spanish classes are also included as part of our program to promote overall development at the preschool level.
A child’s first school experience is an important step. We feel the learning experiences at our preschool program provide each child with an opportunity to develop the skills that are the foundation for growth and learning at the primary level.
